RkS - Low-frequency Exploits . .
Below are some links to various web sites and internet resources that I find to be somewhat helpful, interesting,or amusing.  Many of these are links to the sites and resources of musical colleagues and close friends of mine, as well as projects and bands that I have played with, shared the stage with, etc.  I'll continue to update this page with additional links, of course.  Suggestions are welcome.

Gear:

Tune Guitar Technology  -  They make some of my axes.

Yamaha Corporation of America - They make some more of my axes.

Michael Kelly Guitar Company  -  They make my acoustic axes.

Gallien-Krueger Amplifiers  -  They make my amps and cabinets.

Pigtronix  -  These cats make some kick-ass pedals.

Electro-Harmonix - Producers of legendary, classic analog stomp-box technology.

Warr Guitar  - the perfect genetic hybrid of guitar, bass, and Chapman stick, but without the goofy tuning.  I think I can actually learn to play this thing! One day. . .

Chapman Stick - This is what Tony Levin and Trey Gunn are known for. The Chapman stick opens up new dimensions for low-frequency string playing.

Friends

Tweede Kamer  -  The MySpace of what I consider to be my primary musical endeavor.  That of course being, myself on basses/FX, Chris McMillan on guitars, vocals and FX, and Mark Bencivengo on drums and vocals. Wij schommelen!

Inside of Outside - My very bestest friend, muse and musical collaboration partner Cyndi Dawson's MySpace page.  You'll be able to not only browse through an amazing wealth of Cyndi's fantastic poetic offerings here, but you can also hear the latest audio from the Dawson/Scott project and see information on various appearances and events.

Get Angry With Me!! - This is my good friend and music production "mentor", poet/musician/producer Jackie Sheeler's most excellent blog.  And honestly, it's one of the best, most passionate, spot-on blogs I've read in a while! Myself, Cyndi and Tommy are currently working on some new spoken-word/music stuff which Jackie is producing.  More on that later!

Electric Birth - This is Jackie's musical collaboration partner, guitarist Landru's MySpace music site.

Babs Martin - This is the site of poetess, word smith, and good friend Babs Martin.  Here you can hear her latest musical collaborations with European musician/guitarist Max Makin.  They're doing some really marvelous work together!

Carol Barbieri - Carol is an amazing singer/songwriter and guitarist.  She's not only a good friend, but an absolute pleasure to work with creatively.  I played bass on her first CD release, entitled Let It Go.  I also played on her single release called Your Secret's Safe With Me.

David Crowton - This is the YouTube channel of amazing guitar virtuoso David Crowton.  David is also Carol Barbieri's musical partner.  You can catch them every week at Danny's in Red Bank, NJ hosting their acoustic open mic!

The Xperiment  -  This is the brainchild of friends Mark and Linda Sannuti.  I play bass on some of the tracks on the new CD.  On this page you can hear me on Trust In You and Psychedelic Tendencies.

Yurasis Dragon - The psychedelic fusion of progressive rock and funk which featured such musicians as Ken Johnson on keyboards, synthesizers and programming, Bill "Vilhelm" Mochanow on guitars, myself on basses, Joe Wells from A Few Moments Later on drums as well as Jay Fisher on Drums (not at the same time, but at different periods in the band's history), and Suzanne Hamilton on vocals during our final incarnation.

PH101  -  My good friend and keyboardist extraordinaire Rick Lewis' band.

Atypical Situation  -  This is guitarist and good friend Jim Cimino's pet project, which I play bass in.

Riotha  - The Internet masterpiece of dear friend and keyboardist/composer/graphic artist Ken A. Johnson.  Ken and I played together in a few projects in the late 80's, early 90's and up until about 2000 including the progressive rock bands The Web and Yurasis Dragon.  By the way, Ken is the designer of what he and I refer to as the "bass-o-pelli" graphic logo that is featured throughout this site.  The design started off as an idea I had for a tattoo, which I asked Ken to bring to life.  And yes. . . I actually did get the tattoo.  This is a photo of when it was first done, back in March, 08.  The good folks at Living Arts Tattoo did the work.

Bill Molch - This is my good friend William "Vilhelm" Molchanow's MySpace.  Bill is an amazing muthaf* ("Shut yer mouth!  I'm just talkin' 'bout Vilhelm"!) guitarist and one of the greatest musical minds I've had the pleasure of playing with.  Bill played with Ken Johnson and I in Yurasis Dragon for it's entire existence and provided us with some amazing, smokin' fretwork.  To this very day, one of my most favorite guitar solos ever, pro amateur or otherwise, is Bill's solo in the "Airtitght Garage" mix of YD's Musta Broke A Mirror (I put it in the Audio section).

Yurasis Dragon - That's right!  YD still has a MySpace!  I have nothing to do with this that I can recall. . . still, pretty cool, huh?!

A Few Moments Later - This is the MySpace of the classic rock cover tour de force that I played bass in during the early 90's.  Based out of Glassboro, NJ, we were gaining some pretty decent momentum in the South Jersey/Philly area.  We also produced some original material that was pretty damn powerful.  Although the band has recently reformed with only original/founding members Lou Hall (vocals) and Joe Wells (drums) left, you can hear my work with the early 90's line-up when you listen to the tunes called Still Life Bleeding, Apocalypse Now, and Thunder and Lace, from our original earl 90's demo EP.  These are featured on the band's MySpace (I hope to acquire copies of them soon).  The line-up on those tunes consists of Lou on lead vocals, Joe Wells on kit, John Callahan on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Randy Reyerson on lead guitar and backing vocals, Debbie Carlsen on keyboards, and myself on electric basses (I think I used a Peavey TL6 6-string contrabass on those recordings.)

SunnyDaze - This is the home site of a fantastic jazz/funk/Latin ensemble that my old college buddy Tom Weber plays in.  Tom is an amazing keyboardist and musician, and I had the honor of playing with him in a handful of projects down in South Jersey in the early 90's, including Chocolate City and Room Full Of Booty.  SunnyDaze also has a MySpace.

Poets and Angels  - The Myspace page for information on the Poets and Angels poetry and music performance series held each week in East Brunswick, NJ.  This was founded and is organized and hosted by the magnificent and lovely Cyndi Dawson, poetress extraodinaire.  Myself, Tony Psi and Tommy Abouselman from PBJ, TnT Blues, and Tommy's Allstars are on a couple of the streaming tracks on here: The Linda Song, Never Gonna Be Like it Was, and Lovers And Friends (I played fretless on these). NOTE - As of mid July, 2009, I regret to mention that the Poets and Angels live series has, due to unexpected events, lost it's current venue.  So we could use a TON of assistance in finding a new venue to continue this series in the East Brunswick NJ area.  If anyone has any leads or suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

Blue Highways - This is guitarist/bassist/vocalist and fellow Back-Alley Diplomats band-mate Kenny Ramos' other band. These cats are amazing musicians and a real central NJ landmark on the independent music scene.

The VooDudes - These guys are not only fantastic musicians, but really great guys as well.  I had the pleasure of laying down tracks with drummer Dave Ambrosy for a studio project that Tommy is working on and for some early Dawson/Scott stuff.

Second Story  -  Good friend and fellow bassist Mark Gollihur's band.  Also features John and Scott Lewis (also old friends) on vocals and guitars.  These guys are amazing.  I've known them on and off since the 90's (we all went to college together) and shared the stage with them back in the day when I played in The Web.

Din Within - Mark's latest progressive rock project with guitarist Josh Sager.

Jason Pfeiffer - Jason is an old friend of mine from back in the day, as it were.  Currently, Jason is an amazing Celtic musician who's primary musical focus is on traditional Irish folk instruments such as on flutes, pennywhistles and bodhran.  However, when he and I played music together, he was an outstanding jazz/fusion trumpet player.  Check out Jason's CD release with (South Jersey/Philly Celtic ensemble) The Wexford Boys, called Seems Like Only Yesterday.

HAWP - Jason's current Celtic music ensemble.

Anna Savage Music Inc  -  I recently sat in at a Poets and Angels session in East Brunswick and had the pleasure of accompanying Anna on bass for a few of her pieces.  Anna is an amazing spoken word performer and poet from London.  Suffice it to say that I thoroughly enjoyed her live presentation.

Stringzville  - The Gypsy style Jazz and Bosa Nova tour de force that features good friends and sometime band mates Bo Child and Mark Hill.

Steve Kunzman  - I've played with Steve on projects a few times in the past.  He's an amazing singer/songwriter and one hell of a great guy.

Brain Damage  - Former frontwoman for The Web and Yurasis Dragon, Suzanne Hamilton is an old friend and amazing vocalist.  She now sings with this amazing Pink Floyd tribute band.  I hope to convince her to work with me again on future projects. . .

Nina Gee  - I've known Nina forever and she is a fantastic artist, amazing and innovative photographer, and dear friend.

Resources

Frankensound Rehearsal Studios - I work out here with any given band on any given day.

Trax East - The Legendary recording studio.  This place has become a NJ landmark for rock n' roll.  I've had the pleasure of laying down bass tracks in here once in a while for a demo or project here and there. I was recently in here laying down bass for Tommy's studio project.

Gollihur Music  -  This is the online storefront of my old college friend and bass virtuoso Mark Gollihur and his dad Bob, who is also an accomplished bassist and musician.  This is a fantastic resource for all of us low frequency engineers and subsonic enthusiasts.

Black Rock Coalition - This is an amazing organization for rock and heavy musicians of color, formed at a time when the record industry didn't know what to do with guys who wanted to play metal or hardcore, but didn't . . . how shall I say. . . look the part.

The Paul Green School of Rock - The now internationally famous music education institution, which the movie School of Rock is based on, The Paul Green School of Rock strives to help their students realize their potential as artists, to put them on stage in front of as many people as possible and to help foster a new generation of incredible musicians.  I attended one of their major venue shows at the Trocadero Theater in Philadelphia in late spring of 2009, and I was beyond impressed with what these kids (ranging in ages from 10 to 17) brought to the stage!  They are truly top-notch performers! Paul and his staff of music educators are doing aboslutely remarkable and vital work!

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls - This is a non-profit music and mentoring program that empowers girls and women through music education and activities that foster self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.  Thanks to friend and fellow bassist and guitarist Wendy Pereira-Murphy for making me aware of this fantastic organization!

ChocoDog Records - This is the NJ based indie record label that is run by legendary indie rock/alternative rock/avant-garde producer Greg Frey and New Hope PA rock mad-scientists Gene and Dean Ween of the band Ween.  Greg worked on Yurasis Dragon's last attempt at an indie release.  He mixed and produced PhatAss and Mankoon Kat, which feature Suzanne Hamilton's luscious vocals.

NABA - (as opposed to NASA).  This is the site of bassist Norwood Fisher's (from Fishbone) Bass To Space bass advancement "curriculum".

Guitar Geek - This is a really great site for guitarists, bassists, or just all around guitar and bass enthusiasts.  The name says it all.

For The Music Only - Musician Bill Levinson's MySpace Page to promote the truly stunning and remarkable performance space that he and his wife have constructed in New Hope, PA.  Bill has a really unique and amazingly generous concept with this space.  Click on the link to check out what he's been up to and I think any musician that reads his "mission statement" will be no less than amazed!  I almost passed out when good friend and singer/songewriter Steve Kunzman sent me this link!

Women's Flat Track Derby Association -Because I like Roller Derby.  It rocks.

Streams/Podcasts

WeFunk - Owwwww!!  'nuff said.  Listen and you'll know what I mean.

WeFunk Podcast - Awwww yeah. . .put some funk all up in yer iPod.

Drum& Bass Arena - This is not a site devoted to drumming and bass playing.  This is a site devoted to the electronic music genre known as "Drum&Bass", or "Breakbeat" (or in some cases, "Jungle").  This genre has become a big musical preoccupation of mine the past few years, and my future focus is to work on Drum&Bass projects someday.  I make it a point to listen to at least an hour of Drum&Bass mixes almost every day.  I belong to the podcast here.  It is chock full of fresh new mixes every week, as well as other valuable resources for amateur and professional electronic music producers, DJ's and fans.

BassDrive.com - Another fantastic Drum&Bass/Jungle site.  BassDrive.com is a 24/7 drum and bass radio station featuring live shows with guest DJs, as well as broadcasts from venues all over the world representing the best of drum and bass & jungle music. BassDrive is also a new record label promoting US drum and bass.  I listen to their stream every day.

Phuture Frequency - Another amazing UK based podcast and site devoted to the ever-blossoming electronica scene, with particular respect to drum&bass, tribal, breakbeat, jungle. . .that sort of thing.

JungleTrain - I recently discovered yet another amazing Drum n' Bass streaming audio resource from the UK.  Junglis 24/7, baby!!

Umphrey's McGee - These cats are SICK!  One of the greatest guitar-driven improvisational (I will abstain from using the term "Jam Band") ensembles I've ever heard.  Listening to their podcast is, for me, like a lesson in bass, and in ensemble playing.  These guys really know what's going on.  I beg you to check them out.

Musical Influences

Tony Levin -  Tony is a consummate session bassist who is most commonly known for his work with the various recent incarnations of King Crimson.  His playing has taught me so much about how to be a heavy and powerful bassist, and i find myself referring to some of his stylistic manurisms often.

Trey Gunn - This man is one of the most amazing musicians I've ever heard.  Although he is known for his Chapman Stick playing, I have to admit I'm most enchanted by his Warr Guitar work. . .so much so that I'd like to pursue learning to play that instrument one day.

Mick Karn - I became familiar with Mick's playing from his work with the 80's British "new wave" band Japan.  A workmate of mine from a few years ago, a fellow musician, insisted that I investigate Mick's playing.  At the time I was not playing music at all, and just listening to Mick play fretless really motivated me to play bass again.  Pay particular attention to his work with Peter Murphy on the Dali's Car EP that was released a few years ago. . . if you can find it, that is.

Robert Fripp and King Crimson - The consummate jedi of the guitar.  Despite the fact that I am not a guitarist, Fripp's work and philosophies have played a very big role in the formation of my musical personality.

Adrian Belew - See above.  I love guitarists like Adrian.  True experimentalists and rare breeds.  I've had the rare opportunity to play with cats like him once in a while (like guitarist John Kayes, back in the Ultarism days). . .I turn into a different bassist when confronted by this kind of guitar playing.

Jaco Pastorious - He is the closest thing I have to a "messiah".  Seriously.  I have an iconic piece of artwork that depicts him hanging over a doorway in my house (compliments of Ken Johnson), the way staunch catholics have crosses over doorways.  Jaco is the whole reason I even picked up the bass to begin with.

Soul Coughing - To me, this band is one of those few bands that I sparingly describe as "perfect" (and I'm one of the few people you'll ever meet who owns their entire major lable catalog).  They appeal to all of my tastes as far as music and the written/spoken word are concerned.  Sebastian Steinberg is an amazing upright player with a HEAVY tone (considering he actually plays a real upright and not an electric one, not that there's anything wrong with it), and Yuval Gabay has become one of my all time favorite drummers.

Melvin Gibbs - Like Levin, Melvin's playing has taught me much about heavy music and how to effectively create it in an ensemble.  I LOVE his work with Henry Rollins Band.

Henry Rollins  - From Black Flag to Henry Rollins Band, Henry has influenced my artistically and in terms of aspects of my own life.  I admire him as a human being and his political views are spot-on.

Bad Brains - The first time I heard bad Brains. . .everything changed for me.  I think I was maybe 14 years old.  I knew what I had to do. . and I still strive to do it.  I want to in some way make music like this.  What these gentlemen do and have done is superhuman.

Doug Wimbish - Another huge influence on my playing and someone who I admire immensely.  He also has much to teach us about heavy music as it relates to the bass.

Fishbone - The Mighty Might Fishbone!  Norwood. . . another heavy  bass cat.  His playing is thunderous and I aspire to that.

Victor Lemonte Wooten - I think he may be the best bassist currently alive today.

Kraftwerk - I remember back in 1981 when the album Computer World came out (the one with the Comodore Pet on the cover). I'd already heard pieces from Trans-Europe Express and was very curious indeed.  I horded my lunch money for a week (I was 11), and ran out and bought this thing.  And I think I wore it out.  Like watching G-force/Battle of the Planets without realizing it would lead to a life-long Anime addiction, hearing Kraftwerk was the first taste of electronica that stuck in my brain and led up to my current Drum&Bass/BreakBeat jones.
